This newsletter was launched in February 2003 as an outlet for independent writers and small publishers to have a place where their books are given exposure to readers and fellow writers. New and established writers of independent and self-published books were given much sought-after exposure in what is often a closed media, where only major and traditional publishers get the lion's share of reviews. Both readers and writers answered the request for reviews to the newsletter and are responsible for its tone and quality. Now in its second year of publication, we have published almost 150 book reviews in 14 months, as well as "coming out" essays, serialized novels, articles on writing and publishing, and even film reviews. Each successive issue has been larger and more comprehensive than the last—thanks primarily to all those who have provided the material. We're growing in readership, as well as gaining the attention of precisely the people we intended from the very beginning. Small and independent presses, editors, and writers have looked to us to announce "calls for submission," to feature their new titles, and even to provide a space for recognition of older titles. |
