PNWElection Post-Mortem

By Patricia Nell Warren

Updated from the original version published in A & U Magazine

"How did the Republicans REALLY get control of the government?"

We face four more years of Republican leverage on everything from war to marriage and healthcare. It’s no secret that “Republican” means more right-wing religious leverage as well. Bush’s victory doesn’t bode well for gay people, who are viewed with “moral” distaste by so many of the winners.

So why did the Democrats lose? Every pundit has been rushing to speculate...page 2

"One very important reason why it is so hard to find out how many gay men are battered by their mates is that the gay community would rather not know."

From the Editor...
Over the last two years, I've had submissions of articles and opinion pieces from writers that don't fit the moniker of this magazine: "All About Books and Writing." I had attempted to keep the social and political commentary at bay, while occasionally allowing a few pieces to be published...well, actually several pieces, when I consider the interesting and sometimes off-topic social pieces from Jeffrey Williams. And last month, with our emphasis on transgender books, I included a short piece from Mekah Gordon.

So I decided to open a page in this magazine to social and political commentary, which could be our editorial page if you will. And guess what? We have two submissions: Patricia Nell Warren conducts an Election Post Mortem, "How Did the Republicans REALLY Get Control of the Government?" and Jeffrey Williams presents "Abuse in Our Community, the Hidden Epidemic."

In the last two years, we have also published three serialized novels and several short stories; this month, Larry D. Hamilton, author of A Gathering of Angels, has submitted an epic poem, "The Wreck of the G.D.K." Prolific writer Jay Mandal has given us another short-short story, "Double Entendre."

We'll need to turn this into a book catalog with the seven books reviewed by writer Lori L. Lake and the reviews by eight of our other regular reviewers. You may have noticed that I have allowed books to be reviewed more than once. If this becomes a real problem and we only review the same books repeatedly, I'll abandon the practice; but in my opinion, it never hurts to have a second or third opinion. I think multiple reviews spread out over time keeps a book in the market longer than the initial six-months and offers varying perspectives on a book.

You've had a book published through POD. The cover looks great, the story is hot...so why ruin it?
