From the Editor...
I was having one of those deliciously
busy months at my day job and the loose schedule I set for this issue
of The
Independent Gay Writer snuck
up on me like that thong underwear I don't think I'd like. I had been
thinking about moving the schedule of each issue to the beginning of
the month, anyway. So here is the Halloween edition. I'm
not a thematic person; don't really look forward to the holidays, but
what the heck, September's gone.
My two
editors, John
Charles and Betty Conley, have helped out with this issue by providing
reviews, as well as performed their usual editing. The regular
contributors have come through again, for which I'm always beholden,
and my husband pitched in with a review this time. We also have the
sixth episode by Jak Klinikowski of the Adventures of Ineeda
Willingbottom and another short story by best-selling English writer
Jay Mandal. His novel The
Dandelion Clock is
selling very well on Amazon (UK). Writer Larry Dean Hamilton (A
Gathering of Angels)
responded to a request I made for him to write about writing his novel.
We also have two new
Calls for Submissions and the announcement of a spanking brand new
publisher making its appearance on the publishing scene, backed by
best-selling lesbian author, Radclyffe.
"...Upon
A Midnight Clear is a
genuine holiday gift to treasure... Thank goodness
it is available to gay men and their families. It deserves to be
read again and again each Christmas holiday. Here, too, is a wish that
an equivalent volume will soon appear (or perhaps already exists) for
lesbian readers as well as for readers of faiths and beliefs other than
Christianity." —Jerry Flack

Call for Submissions!
sorry guys...this one's for lesbians
Vampires and Werewolves and
Succubi, Oh My! (tentative title)
Edited by Therese Szymanski
Submission deadline: December 15, 2004
The darkness calls to the demon in all of us—beckoning us
to come hither . . .
. . . bad things happen in the night—even while we try to take it
back . . .
. . . the boogeyman comes from under the bed, or out of the
closet, and what does lurk around that next corner?
Therese Szymanski is looking for hot stories that creep her out,
or are too fun to turn down—but they must also be hot and deal with the
supernatural—incubi, succubi, werewolves, demons, ghosts, mummies,
witches, warlocks, vampires, monsters, hell spawn and whatever else
sends a shiver down your spine and into your nether regions. Cross the
Time/Life series with a good porno, and you’re on track. This will be a
lesbian erotica anthology. http://www.bellabooks.com/news.htm
