From the Editor...
This is the first issue devoted to a particular subject area of glbt literature. While there are reviews of film and books on other subjects and genres in this issue, John Charles (one of our editors) has done a survey of transgender literature , both fiction and non-fiction. The survey is not exhaustive by any means; and another writer undoubtedly would have come up with a different list of books for the survey; but perhaps this survey will foster additional interest in this often neglected subject.

IneedaWe regret that Jak Klinikowski will not be contributing an episode of The Adventures of Ineeda Willingbottom this issue; but Ineeda is getting ready for her wedding —and we all know how long it takes a drag queen to get ready for anything. So we will hold our breaths until next issue...

As usual, we have book and film reviews from regular contributors, along with a new short short from Jay Mandal and a new story from Larry Hamilton.

PNWPatricia Nell Warren has provided another invaluable article—The Ultimate Update—which points writers, small presses, and self-publishers to resources they need to market their work.

MekahIn keeping with the focus on  Transgender issues The Independent Gay Writer is pleased to introduce Mekah Gordon.

Read her article here.

She was the first Transsexual teacher in Westchester County, NY, and probably the entire state, to ever maintain a teaching position in a school district where she was about to transition from Male to Female.
She had taught in New York State a total of 26 years as a "man," before coming out to her superintendent, as well as the rest of the world, of her plans to transition from M-F.

The district began by giving her a year off with pay, maintaining her health benefits, enabling her to begin full time transition in NY, as well as in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

This alone was unheard of, and Historical!

She has been featured on TV's The Early Show/w Katie Couric, The View/w Barbara Walters, in numerous national, and overseas newspaper articles, as well as a variety of radio stations from coast to coast.

She is a lifetime member of GLSEN, NY, where she served as a Steering Committee Member - PFLAG, Santa Fe (She is the Transgender Rep) - and formerly served as secretary on the board of the  HRA, (Human Rights Alliance) in Santa Fe.  She is the founder/director of the S. U. R. E. Foundation  (Sensitivity, Understanding, Respect, through Education) as well as The TGWSG (Transgender Women's Support Group) of Santa Fe. The TGWSG is tireless in bringing news about transgenderism and other news to members of the list. If you're interested in subscribing, contact TGWSG.
